Joe's Rock - Hiking Trails in Wrentham, MA
Keeping with our Stay Active - Winter 2020 goals, our next hiking trail that we are reviewing is Joe's Rock in Wrentham, MA. This place is great for a short, heart healthy, walk/hike. This hike definitely works the legs, winding up a somewhat steep hill to the "summit" of Joe's Rock. About a mile long, the walk enjoys well cared for trails to a peak that looks out to some vistas and the adjacent pond.
Leading to the conservation land itself brings you down a quaint country road in Wrentham, littered with antique homes and farms. Located at 2055 West St, there is a small dirt parking lot with room for about 10 cars. When I first arrived there was nobody there but in the 20 minutes of going up and down the hill (about a mile), there suddenly was at least 7 other cars in the lot. Apparently this is a popular place, even on a winters day in January. There was a mixed group of hikers including mothers with children racing up the hills, couples going for a stroll, and others there to get in their daily workout.
Trail Quality is good and litter was minimal. This is a great place for a heart healthy short hike and seems safe for single walkers to do on their own.
Its amazing how getting outside to exercise not only gets the blood pumping, burns calories, and retains muscle mass through the winter, but it also helps with people suffering from seasonal depression. There is a lot of beauty out in nature even when the trees are bare and ponds are frozen over.
