VA Healthcare Bill Gets House Approval

VA Healthcare Bill Gets House Approval

On May 9th the House voted to provide veterans with more freedom in where they get their health care. Instead of pushing all veterans to the VA in-house departments with their longer appointment wait times, patients can now have access to an expanded line-up of private healthcare providers.

The VA will set guidelines that decide when a patient is receiving inadequate care, but the new bill would loosen the previous restrictions. First, veterans would be able to use private care when a particular service is not offered by the VA. Secondly, private care could be used when a patient’s health care provider at the VA thinks it is best to get care outside the VA. Previously these rules were restricted to when one would have to wait 30 days for an appointment or if they lived more than 40 miles from the facility.

When someone is in pain, waiting a few weeks really makes a difference in their lives. While the VA has certain things they do, and do well, many veterans and their families will be happy to receive healthcare services such as urgent cares, orthopedic, physical therapy, and other specialist treatments in a timely manner.

At Allied Physical Therapy, we provide same week appointments for Veterans and their families at our three convenient locations in Norwood, Framingham, and Foxboro, MA.
