Are you overpaying for physical therapy?
You could be paying thousands more than you need to for physical therapy. As a private physical therapy office we get jipped by the insurance companies whenever we get reimbursed for provided care… but that’s not where it ends; our potential patients could also be getting jipped out of their hard earned money by not choosing to get treatment by a self-standing physical therapy clinic.
The reason self-standing PT costs less is because insurance companies approve and reimburse only a fraction of what a privately owned physical therapy office bills out but pays hospital based physical therapy clinics much more. “For physical therapy, HOPDs (Hospital Outpatient Departments) charged on average 50% more than freestanding clinics,” says the APTA.
If you have insurance that has a deductible, you are responsible to pay that higher billed amount at a hospital based PT department. If you get a lot of medical treatment each year and usually hit the end of your deductible, this may not matter that much to you, but if you have a plan that has a large deductible or usually don’t go through your entire deductible, each increased bill may make a difference in your pocket.
So, choose to get your treatment by a privately owned physical therapy clinic, you are supporting small business while saving a significant amount of money at the same time.
